Omicron is named as the most dangerous variant of coronavirus and it is first traced in South Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) asked the people to be extra cautious and asked them to wear facemasks and follow the social distancing rules when they are in public. World Health Organization Director General Tedros A Ghebreyesus revealed that the Omicron variant is traced in 77 countries of the globe and he said that it may be present in the rest of the nations and it is yet to be traced. Tedros A Ghebreyesus also said that the variant is spreading at a faster rate than any other variant of coronavirus. He said that the vaccination for coronavirus alone can stop the pandemic and asked everyone to maskup.

WHO has asked the countries of the South-East Asian region to hike the investments for the health care. Tedros A Ghebreyesus said that the PHC plays a crucial role in better preparedness and responds to pandemic well. All the countries that had better medical facilities are in a safer place when compared to others. WHO also argued that there are nations that could not afford for the vaccinations because of which the vaccination percentage is quite low.

During his speech in a high-level meeting, Tedros A Ghebreyesus said "One of the key lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic is that the best defense against disease outbreaks and other health emergencies is resilient primary health care as the foundation of universal health coverage. Many of the countries that have responded most effectively to COVID-19 are those that have invested adequately in PHC".
