OnePlus 15 details and traits have been widely shared before the launch of this top-end phone. It is anticipated to replace last year's OnePlus 13, which runs on a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. A new report has indicated that the OnePlus 15 could include an in-house image engine, raising doubts about the existing partnership with Hasselblad. Now, the CEO of the Chinese tech company has officially verified this by announcing a new OnePlus DetailMax camera engine, signaling the end of their five-year collaboration with the camera brand. In statements made by OnePlus CEO and Co-Founder, Pete Lau, he mentioned that the company is working on a new image engine for the upcoming flagship device, which many expect will be the OnePlus 15. The DetailMax Engine is still in the very early prototype stage, but Lau expressed that the initial test results from the DetailMax Engine are promising, leading him to believe it will be ready by the time the phone is launched.
Lau further explained that the new OnePlus DetailMax Engine aims to produce more lifelike images with greater clarity. This will be a milestone for the Chinese smartphone brand, as it will be the first time they install their own image engine in a phone. Unfortunately, Lau did not share any specific technical details about the new image engine. This development signifies the conclusion of the company's five-year alliance with the Swedish camera brand, Hasselblad. Nevertheless, Lau expressed hope for future collaborations with Hasselblad on different projects related to smartphone camera imaging solutions. In the meantime, tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) disclosed in a post on Weibo that the OnePlus 15 will feature a third-generation “oriental” screen from BOE, which is touted to be the best in overall screen rankings. Previous leaks have also provided some insights into the size of the device’s display.
The community post that introduced the DetailMax Engine appeared just days after a report stated that the OnePlus 15 will include a custom image engine, the first for the Chinese brand. This self-created camera engine is reported to enhance the photo and video processing abilities of OnePlus smartphones and has been under research and development for several years. Moreover, OnePlus's in-house image engine may employ advanced algorithms to improve performance in low-light situations and produce more accurate skin tones and dynamic range. Earlier information indicated that the OnePlus 15 would have a 50-megapixel triple rear camera setup. The company’s new imaging platform could work alongside this camera arrangement. Additionally, the device is said to feature a redesigned square rear camera unit, replacing the circular design found in earlier OnePlus models.
Previous reports have suggested that the OnePlus 15 may have a 6.78-inch flat LTPO display with a resolution of 1.5K and an impressive refresh rate of up to 165Hz. It is expected to include a battery capacity of 7,000mAh or more, along with the capability for 100W wired fast charging.
