In yet another shocking incident of drug abuse that shamed the sports world, world's top sprinters — former record holder Asafa Powell, American champion Tyson Gay, Olympic medalist Sherone Simpson and Central American and Caribbean Senior Games discus champion Allison Randall — tested positive for abuse of banned substances.
The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) has confirmed one more athlete who failed the drug test.
Both Powell and Simpson were tested positive for using the same stimulant, oxilofrine. Randall tested positive for Hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic that serves as a masking agent for other more potent drugs.
However, Randall, Powell and Simpson have refuted the claims of abusing any Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED) knowingly.
The sprinters remain banned from competition until they face a disciplinary hearing.
