A few days following their significant disagreement, billionaire Elon Musk expressed that he regrets certain social media comments he made regarding US President Donald Trump. "I have regrets about some of my posts concerning President @realDonaldTrump last week. They were excessive," he stated. This dispute arose from Musk's criticism of a proposed spending bill by the Trump administration, a measure viewed as a cornerstone of Trump’s domestic policy in his second term. Musk described the bill as a "disgusting abomination," calling for political consequences against Republican legislators who supported it. The White House took note of his remarks. In an interview with NBC News on Saturday, Trump cautioned Musk about "very serious consequences" if the billionaire attempted to finance primary challengers against incumbent Republican lawmakers.

"He will face very serious consequences if he does that," Trump remarked, although he did not elaborate on what those repercussions might be. He also indicated that there would be no possibility of reconciliation between them. "I don’t intend to communicate with him," Trump said. Just the week before, Trump had publicly commended Musk for his role as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a body designed to enhance the efficiency of federal spending. Musk resigned from that position, citing differences in views regarding government funding. Shortly after resigning, Musk began to openly criticize the President's signature legislation. His comments quickly ignited a backlash, culminating in Trump accusing Musk of disloyalty and threatening to reassess federal contracts allocated to Musk’s companies.

The tensions escalated when Musk posted a series of provocative messages connecting Trump to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide while in custody in 2019 as he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges. "It’s time to release the really big bomb: (Trump) is mentioned in the Epstein files," Musk claimed, referencing unreleased government documentation surrounding Epstein’s circle of associates. He suggested that these documents were being intentionally withheld, implying they could contain compromising information about the president. Musk did not provide any evidence for his assertion, nor did he clarify which documents he was discussing. In a subsequent message, he encouraged people to "save this post for the future," adding, "The truth will eventually emerge."

By Saturday morning, both posts had been removed without further clarification. Trump, in an NBC interview, dismissed Musk's allegations as "old news.""Even Epstein’s lawyer stated that I was not involved," he added. Although Trump has acknowledged having a casual acquaintance with Epstein, he has denied ever visiting Epstein's private island or participating in any illegal activities. Official records do not accuse the President of any wrongdoing.
