Samsung Galaxy XR headset was introduced on Wednesday at the company's Galaxy Unpacked event in October 2025. This marks the first extended reality headset from the South Korean technology leader, featuring augmented reality components that blend with real-life surroundings through two internal lenses. It is designed with hand tracking, allowing users to control applications and settings with gestures because of sensors located at the bottom. The device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset and is the first one to utilize Android XR straight out of the box. The price for the Samsung Galaxy XR headset is fixed at $1,799 (approximately Rs. 1,58,000) for the single version with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage in the US. In South Korea, the identical 256GB storage version is priced at KRW 2,690,000 (around Rs. 1,65,000).
For those who prefer not to pay the entire sum upfront, the company allows customers to buy the Samsung Galaxy XR headset for $149 (about Rs. 13,000) monthly over a year. It is exclusively available in the US and South Korea through the company's online store. The headset comes in a single color called Silver Shadow. The Samsung Galaxy XR headset operates on the Android XR platform. It is equipped with micro-OLED displays boasting 27 million pixels, a resolution of 3,552x3,840 pixels, a 6.3-micron pixel pitch, and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. The screen also features a 95 percent DCI-P3 color range, a horizontal field of view of 109 degrees, and a vertical field of view of 100 degrees. Google's Gemini AI assistant is included as well. The Samsung Galaxy XR headset uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, paired with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It consists of multiple cameras that enable 3D photo and video capture at a resolution of 6.5-megapixels with an 18mm focal length and an f/2.0 aperture. Additionally, it is outfitted with two pass-through cameras so that users can view their surroundings with augmented reality overlays.
The Samsung Galaxy XR headset is also equipped with six tracking cameras facing the outside, four eye-tracking cameras, five Inertial Measurement Units, one depth sensor, and one flicker sensor. For added security, it supports Iris Recognition. The headset includes two two-way sound systems featuring a woofer and a tweeter. It also has a six-microphone array with beamforming capabilities. For connectivity, the Samsung Galaxy XR headset supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The company claims that the headset can last for up to 2 hours of regular use and 2.5 hours for video playback. It comes with an external battery pack to power the device. The Galaxy XR headset is compatible with an Interpupillary Distance (IPD) ranging from 54mm to 70mm through optional prescription lenses that can be purchased separately. It measures 121.92x195.58x264.16mm and weighs approximately 545g, including the forehead cushion. The external battery pack adds another 302g to the total weight.
