While millennials face challenges in the dating scene, balancing the expectations of older generations and keeping up with younger ones, Gen Z is experiencing success. It can be tough to keep up with all the dating vocabulary, but each new trend is changing how people view dating today. A fresh concept called 6-7 dating is becoming popular among single individuals. Why is this happening? It encourages individuals to set aside their dreamy ideas about love, acknowledge reality, and choose partners who make them feel secure, calm, and ready for a long-term connection. According to Psychology Today, the source of this term remains unclear. It is described as "a viral, unclear slang term" that lacks definition and has "uncertain and changing meaning. " However, it can also express a wish to connect and share common objectives. As children, when you read romantic stories and watched Disney films, you develop a vision of a charming prince or a lovely princess. This idea is far from the truth. Rarely does someone find their lifelong partner while singing with animals in a beautiful forest.

People can meet potential partners at schools, cafes, through mutual friends, and workplaces. Frequently, individuals overlook a possible partner simply because they don’t score a perfect 10. This is where the Gen Z dating trend comes in to shift the perspective. Rather than aiming for a person who seems perfect on paper and imagining dramatic romance, Gen Z tends to accept a partner rated as a 6 or 7. Why is this? It feels "good enough. " A partner who falls within the 6-7 range offers stability, emotional maturity, peace, kindness, dependability, and comfort. This is preferable to pursuing a 10 who might look great on paper but is actually tiring and overwhelming in real life. It is better to enjoy a life of comfort than to deal with dating exhaustion, which can often lead to sleepless nights and stress. The truth is that no one is truly a 10. While they may seem fantastic at first, as you get to know them, you may discover traits that make their score drop to 9, 8, or even 7. Interestingly, the 6-7 dating trend does not mean a commitment. No. It represents a balance between being committed and casual dating.

Similar to a situationship, but you depend on your partner. It provides a break from the ups and downs of a relationship and appears to be healthy. Some may view it as an old idea with a modern name. If you consult older generations, they will share that they prioritized comfort and compromise over an imaginary perfect partner. Many individuals consider the trend of dating people rated 6-7 as a warning sign. Why is that? Judging a partner based on a rating is often perceived as a way to control, and choosing someone who is less than ideal may seem like a choice made to escape fear and loneliness. How you interpret this for your benefit is up to you, but you must agree that it could potentially alter your dating experiences.

However, the trend of dating someone rated 6-7 is focused on selecting healthy and stable relationships. After dismissing clear red flags, you assess the person. If they fall into the 6-7 range, showing a mix of green, beige, and yellow flags, you might think about dating them. Who knows? They could end up being your perfect match. Keep in mind that even Chandler and Monica from FRIENDS and Lily and Marshall from How I Met Your Mother were not perfect 10s, but they believed in putting effort into their relationships to become memorable couples.
