Dr Alok Chopra, in a video he shared on Instagram on September 4, discussed the harmful effects of drinking alcohol on both physical and mental health. The heart specialist pointed out that although alcohol can provide quick pleasure, it negatively impacts long-term brain functions, resulting in poor decision-making, memory problems, and even reduction in brain size. Alcohol is the most accepted drug that quietly damages your health. Although it brings joy now, it takes away your ability to think clearly in the future. It can quickly cloud your judgment and make it harder to make smart choices over time. It harms your nerve cells and affects your energy cells, which leads to bad memory, increased chances of dementia, and potential reduction of brain size later on.
Cardiologists also mentioned that alcohol alters brain chemistry, which can lead to mood disorders like depression and anxiety. Drinking disrupts brain balance, often causing feelings of sadness, worry, and unpredictable emotions. It also makes losing fat difficult, gives you useless calories, and harms crucial organs like the liver, which can lead to fatty liver disease and metabolic problems. If you're trying to lose weight, alcohol can slow down fat burning, which goes against your fitness aims. These are just empty calories that provide no nutrition. Even worse, alcohol encourages mindless eating, disrupts your sleep, and stresses out your liver. It can result in fatty liver disease and long-lasting metabolic harm. Even though society readily accepts it, alcohol just provides temporary enjoyment and does not help your overall health, leading to suggestions against its use for health benefits.
No matter what you see around you, alcohol offers nothing but brief pleasure. That drink you share with friends might feel nice, but it doesn’t help your health. So, while having a glass of red wine, beer, or tequila occasionally may be fine, I really wouldn’t suggest it for health reasons.
