In Bengaluru, a tech professional, aged 36, is accused of murdering his wife and hiding her remains inside a suitcase before escaping to Pune, where he later tried to take his own life. This tragic event unfolded in the Doddakannahalli vicinity. The deceased, identified as 32-year-old Gauri Anil Sambekar, and the suspect, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, both hail from Maharashtra and had been residing in Bengaluru for the past year. Reports indicate that during dinner on Wednesday night, an argument erupted between the couple. Gauri reportedly threw a knife at Rakesh, causing him injuries. In retaliation, Rakesh allegedly grabbed the same knife and fatally attacked her. The gruesome nature of the crime became apparent on Thursday when Gauri's remains were discovered stuffed into a suitcase within their home. Preliminary forensic examinations revealed that she had been stabbed multiple times in the neck and abdomen, with her remains subsequently dismembered into eight to ten parts and concealed.
"The couple originally from Maharashtra had relocated to Bengaluru a year ago. The landlord contacted the police control room after discovering the body concealed in the suitcase. Gauri had completed her degree in Mass Media, while her husband was employed at a private company and had been working from home," noted Sarah Fathima, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East). After the murder, Rakesh reportedly reached out to Gauri's parents to confess his actions over the phone. Distressed by his revelation, they promptly contacted the police in Maharashtra, who then engaged their counterparts in Karnataka. "It appears that the primary motive for the murder stems from matrimonial issues," stated B Dayanand, Commissioner of Police in Bengaluru. After committing the crime, Rakesh fled to Pune, where he was located through a coordinated effort involving call records and digital tracking. He was found unconscious, having attempted suicide by ingesting poison, and is currently hospitalized in Pune. A police team from Bengaluru has already set out for Pune to retrieve Rakesh as soon as his health improves.
