Sri Lankan Crisis: Mahinda Rajapaksa and family flows to Naval Base

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa submitted his resignation yesterday after protests triggered across the country because of the financial crisis that surrounded the nation. Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family fled to the naval base in Trincomalee in the north-eastern part of the country after protestors surrounded their residence. Sri Lanka is currently facing the worst economic crisis from the past one month. Mahinda Rajapaksa could not beat the stress and he had to resign for the Prime Minister's post. Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family were flown in a special helicopter to the naval base.

There are talks that the protestors broke over the naval base too which is located 270 km from the country's capital Colombo. Thousands of troops are deployed and a curfew was imposed. Five people got killed in the protests and the attacks. More than 200 people have been wounded after Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned. The Military predicted about the attacks and they shifted Mahinda Rajapaksa along with his family to the naval base. The police released warning shots and tear gas to disrupt the crowds. More than 10 petrol bombs were thrown into the residence of Prime Minister.
