Indian Covid-19 tally inching 2 lakh mark

The new cases of coronavirus after the spread of Omicron variant has seen a sudden rise all over. A total number of 1,94,720 new cases of coronavirus are reported in India in the last 24 hours in the country and the new daily tally of cases is close to 2 lakh now. The daily spread is huge that it reached 2 lakh from 20,000 in less than a week's time. 60,405 people recovered from coronavirus in the last 24 hours in India and there are 9,55,319 active cases for the same in the country. The deaths too increased badly and 442 people passed away in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate too increased on a rapid note and it stands at 11.05 percent. There are 4868 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in the country.

When compared to yesterday, the total number of fresh coronavirus cases increased by 15.8 percent and 26,657 new cases are reported when compared to yesterday. India reported 1,68,063 new cases yesterday. Kerala reported 9066 new cases and the spread is huge in the state. Maharashtra, Karnataka and New Delhi are the other states where the spread is huge. Maharashtra has the highest Omicron cases which are 1281 and it is followed by Rajasthan with 645 cases. The active cases in West Bengal reached 1 lakh mark which is alarming. Karnataka government extended the restrictions till the end of January after there are high number of cases reported. Maharashtra reported 34,424 new cases today and Mumbai alone reported 11,647 new cases.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to the Chief Secretaries of all the states to ensure the availability of medical oxygen. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari is tested positive for the second time and he is in isolation.
